The first mandatory requirements will apply to certain battery categories from 18 February 2027, with other product groups expected to follow over time, and the EU Digital Product Passport Registry became operational in July 2026. For many businesses, however, the biggest challenge is unlikely to be creating the digital passport itself. The real challenge will be making sure the reliable product, environmental and supply chain data needed to support it is available in the first place.

There’s no need to have your entire Digital Product Passport strategy figured out overnight. A good place to start is by understanding where you are today, what information you already have available and, perhaps more importantly, where the gaps are. By identifying these gaps early, you’ll have more time to work with suppliers, improve your data and put the right processes in place before the requirements that apply to your products come into force.
